About... me!

Everything you need to know (and a little more): my name is Laura Di Paoli, I was born in 1998 in Umbria (Italy). By profession, I draw, take photographs, and —much more often— accumulate books on my bedside table. Reading, writing, and quick sketches, form the trinity on which I build the foundations of my expressive research: through these, I find a reflective dimension in my work, which is not limited to the final representation but also encompasses exploration and introspection. Within my notebooks, marks, text, and color tests communicate with each other, and, with the support of photography, make every project possible.

My inspiration primarily feeds on everything that can lead it to distant worlds enveloped in a fantastic aura: stories of ancient folk traditions, tales from my childhood, and films that can suggest new paths for composing images and color palettes. The creative engines behind these themes are the imagery of Tolkien, to which I have been viscerally connected since I was a child, and a deep exploration of my homeland traditions, centered on the necessity of a people to come together within common rituals that hold identity value and serve as a bond for the community. This journey, initially focused on the cultural traditions of my territory, has evolved into a deeper investigation of the fantastic elements linked to folklore which still belong to my expressive research.
